CHIEF JUSTICE HIGHLIGHTS POSITIVE TREND IN STRENGTHENING JUDICIAL INTEGRITY

Malang – Public Relations: The Supreme Court of the Republic of Indonesia officially held the Technical and Judicial Administration Development Program for all Chief Judges of High Courts and First Instance Courts throughout Indonesia on Friday (12/6).

In his opening remarks, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Prof. Dr. Sunarto, S.H., M.H., emphasized the importance of strengthening commitment and enhancing understanding of legal developments and Supreme Court policies.

“Through this occasion, we reaffirm our commitment and deepen our understanding of legal developments and Supreme Court policies so that we share the same vision and direction in strengthening public trust in the judiciary,” he stated.

The Chief Justice reminded all judicial personnel to continuously improve both performance and integrity. He stressed that improvements in judges’ welfare must go hand in hand with efforts to enhance the quality of judicial services provided to the public.

He also called on all court personnel to eliminate any form of transactional practices within the judiciary.

The Chief Justice reiterated the Supreme Court’s commitment to maintaining zero tolerance for integrity violations, regardless of the amount or nature of the misconduct involved.

According to internal Supreme Court data, from the beginning of 2026 to the present, there have been no reports of transactional practices involving judges. The Chief Justice described this as a positive indication of the strengthening of judicial independence and integrity.

“The improvement of judges’ welfare has begun to produce positive impacts in strengthening judicial independence and integrity. This achievement must be maintained and continuously improved,” he said.

In addition, the Chief Justice highlighted the importance of enforcing the Code of Ethics and Guidelines for Judicial Conduct, particularly the obligation to maintain a modest lifestyle.

He reminded judges and judicial officers to avoid excessive lifestyles and displays of wealth that could create negative public perceptions and undermine the dignity of the judiciary.

“Please remember that the code of conduct concerns ethics and morality, not merely whether something is right or wrong. What may be considered acceptable by some people can still be viewed as unethical by society. Therefore, any behavior that may create a negative perception and does not reflect the character, dignity, and moral values expected of judges and judicial officers should be avoided,” he emphasized.

The Chief Justice also urged all court personnel to exercise wisdom in using social media by avoiding content that could provoke conflict, reveal political preferences, or other things that can reduce the authority of the judicial institution.

“Please continue to use social media, as it has become an inseparable part of modern digital life. However, let us use social media wisely and responsibly, in a manner that reflects ethics, dignity, and the honor of our institution,” the Chief Justice concluded.
